I grew up in a liberal house, my parents were leftists, and I was raised in a french protestant school where religious education was absent. In Lebanon, religion is very tied with politics, and is a source of continuous conflicts, and so it was repulsive to me from early age. I was an agnostic and never bothered to practise anything, and was never pressured to anyway.
After my awakening, I became naturally attracted to the oriental philosophies of enlightenment, the Buddha story, the Yogi realisations, the chinese philosphies, the I-Ching, the Tao, Lao Tseu, the Gita, etc...
One day I was given the New Testament and I read it during a long metro trip in Paris, and I was in awe by the intense story of Jesus and the parabolas he uses and his message and his destiny! I believed in him instantly, and to me he is a huge spiritual master and an incredible light.
And another day I read the biography of Prophet Muhammad and again I was in complete awe by the incredible life he lead and the message he shared and the poise and spiritual mastery he showed throughout his life. Again to me he is an incredible master and spiritual light.
From more modern teachers, I follow people like Michael Beckwith whose language and eloquence i find so beautiful, and Eckart Tolle whose book "Power of Now" has planted the seed of my mind liberation, and also Prahamsa Yogananda whom I am disovering recently.
Today I am very spiritual liberal person and my faith encompasses all religions and traditions and prophets. Am very close in general to the mystics who seek to experience God in their lives, the meditators and the sufis and the yogis.
My faith is beautiful and is a source of warmth and comfort in my heart. I feel the love to all prophets and spiritual traditions and see no contradiction at all between the different traditions and religions. It sadens me to see religious groups fighting for nonsense. Coming from the middle-east and having experienced the ravages of religious civil war, the message of unity is very dear to my heart.
My dream is that the world awakens to the truth that we are not as divided as our religions seem, and that our different heritages are a source of richness and not conflict. And that's one reason why I love to share spiritual stories. To inspire people and awaken them to the truth, that in essence, all messages are the same, they all point to the same truth, and that we are all One!
And that's also what I hope to share in MindValley.
